People of New York v Melik Davis

TrueAllele analyzes evidence from home invasion

Crime During a home invasion on November 1, 2019, three male assailants bound and held captive Myron Moye’s family. By using Moye’s wife’s phone, assailants lured him home where they immediately assaulted and killed him by shooting him three times and stabbing him seven times. Police accused suspect Melik Davis of orchestrating the attack.
Evidence Police collected many items of evidence including the zip ties used to bind the victim’s family and a gun magazine.
DNA The New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center generated the DNA data from the evidence items.
Match Due to the insufficient genetic information, the crime lab was unable to make evidence and reference comparisons.
TrueAllele On the same data, TrueAllele calculated inclusionary match statistics, ranging from the hundreds to the trillions, between the evidence and two suspects.
Cybergenetics    On December 4, 2023, Cybergenetics casework supervisor William Allan testified before an Ulster County jury about the TrueAllele DNA results.
Outcome On December 7, 2023, the jury found defendant Davis not guilty of murder and other related charges.
