State of Arizona v Amahri Hudson
Homicide: Evidence analyzed from fatal shooting/stabbing
Crime | On August 10, 2020, police responded to a shooting at an apartment complex. They found 28-year-old Hashim Ellis unresponsive with fatal gunshot and stab wounds. |
Evidence | Investigators collected a broken knife handle as evidence. |
DNA | The Phoenix Police Department Laboratory Services Bureau developed DNA data from the knife handle. |
Match | The crime lab concluded that the evidence data were not suitable for comparison due to the complexity of the mixture. |
TrueAllele | On the same data, the TrueAllele computer separated out the five DNA mixture contributors and compared with the victim two suspect DNA profiles. The computer connected the evidence to suspect Amahri Hudson with a match statistic of 936 quadrillion. |
Cybergenetics | On October 22, 2024, Cybergenetics analyst Jennifer Bracamontes testified before a Maricopa County jury about the TrueAllele DNA results. |
Outcome | The weeks-long trial resulted in a mistrial. On January 7, 2025, Mr. Hudson pled to 1st degree burglary and received a seven year sentence. |
