State of Maryland v Michael Brown, Jr.

TrueAllele analyzes minor contributor from jeans pocket mixture

Crime On May 4, 2019, officers found Retro Environmental president Robert Gurecki dead from a single gunshot wound to the head inside his business office. Investigators determined that at some point, the suspect may have touched the decedent's jeans pockets.
Evidence A crime lab technician swabbed the jeans pockets to try and obtain suspect DNA.
DNA The Maryland State Police crime lab developed DNA data from the right and left jeans pockets.
Match The crime laboratory identified the major jeans pocket contributor as Robert Gurecki. The lab could make no conclusions regarding the minor contributors due to the possibility of undetected genetic information.
TrueAllele TrueAllele calculated uninformative DNA match statistics of 1.59 and 11.6 between a minor contributor to both jeans pockets and defendant Michael Brown, Jr. The computer also found an unknown individual’s DNA present on the left pocket with an expected match statistic to a person of 415 quadrillion. This unknown person’s DNA was connected to the right pocket with a match statistic of 64.3 thousand.
Cybergenetics    On May 20, 2022, Cybergenetics analyst William Allan testified before a Carroll County jury about the TrueAllele DNA results.
Outcome On May 23, 2022, the case ended in a hung jury.
