Overcoming bias in DNA mixture interpretation

Human bias can affect the interpretation of DNA evidence. Different experts can reach different conclusions from the same data when using biased methods. Unfortunately, most match statistics for complex DNA are biased. Such hidden bias can adversely affect criminal justice.

A 20 minute talk given this year at the American Academy of Forensic Sciences discussed the prevalence of bias when people interpret DNA mixtures, and how to overcome this bias by using objective computers. Watch a YouTube PowerPoint video of Cybergenetics Dr. Mark Perlin giving this talk.
