Man acquitted of 1995 strangulation murder

Crime On June 10, 1995, a gas station attendant was found dead in an auto shop. He was found strangled to death, with a cord around his neck.
Evidence The cord was recovered from the victim’s body.
DNA In 2017, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of New York City produced DNA data from the ends of the cord.
Match The lab declined to interpret the evidence because they could not determine the number of contributors.
TrueAllele On the same DNA data, the computer’s statistic between the cord and L.M. is 114 billion times less probable than a coincidental match to an unrelated person.
Cybergenetics    On June 22, 2023, Cybergenetics casework supervisor William Allan testified at the trial in a New York City court about the computer DNA match statistic.
Outcome The jury delivered a full acquittal of L.M.
