New York v D.R.

Suspect excluded from firearm

Crime On July 16, 2018, a man’s bullet-riddled body was found by the side of the New York State Thruway near Yonkers.
Evidence A firearm was collected as evidence. The trigger was swabbed.
DNA The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner generated DNA data from the firearm.
Match The crime lab’s limited computer interpretation calculated a match statistic in the “uninformative range” and could not provide support to whether the defendant was included or excluded as a contributor to the evidence.
TrueAllele Using all of the DNA data, TrueAllele statistically excluded the defendant from the firearm evidence with a match statistic of 1 over 126 trillion.
Cybergenetics    On June 12, 2023, Cybergenetics analyst Jennifer Bracamontes testified before a Queens County jury about the TrueAllele DNA results.
Outcome After weeks of testimony, the jury found the defendant not guilty on the murder charge.
