Suspect connected to weapon from home invasion

Crime On July 11, 2020, two armed suspects invaded the home of Romero Underwood. A struggle ensued, and resulted in the shooting death of Mr. Underwood inside his apartment.
Evidence Firearm swabs and scrapings of the victim’s right hand were collected as evidence.
DNA The New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center produced DNA data from the evidence items.
Match Due to either the complexity of the data or insufficient genetic information, the lab could not make evidence and reference comparisons.
TrueAllele Using the same data, the TrueAllele computer connected a contributor from various gun swabs to defendant LeMon with match statistics ranging from 9.84 to 169 billion.
Cybergenetics    On June 14, 2023, Cybergenetics casework supervisor William Allan testified before an Ulster County jury about the TrueAllele DNA results.
Outcome On June 16, 2023, the jury acquitted Mr. LeMon of murder and burglary, but found him guilty of weapons charges. The judge sentenced him to 3.5 to 7 years for the weapons charges.
